Bring your Friends & Families – All are Invited!

This is your chance to find out a little bit about CrossFit, get a great workout in (or be entertained by those who do), and eat some great food in the presence of great people — all while contributing to a great cause.
.
Quick Facts:
- About the Event: Please go to the Fight Gone Bad 5 official website to learn more about CrossFit’s Fight Gone Bad 5 event. Fight Gone Bad 5 gives us a fantastic opportunity to collect a modest amount of money for a very worthy charity: the Wounded Warrior Project (the Wounded Warrior Project is the ONLY charity which will benefit from Landstuhl CrossFit’s contributions – NOT the Livestrong or CrossFit Foundations).
- Who can participate: This event is open to the public! We will have plenty of coaches and support crew on hand to guide first-timers through Fight Gone Bad safely
- How to participate: Go to the Fight Gone Bad 5 official website, click on the “Donate” button, then type in “Laragione” or “Sladky” to find the Landstuhl CrossFit team. We ask for a very small ($5) donation from you (although more is certainly appreciated and you can feel good about your contribution toward a great cause, Wounded Warriors). A simple message of thanks and appreciation for the sacrifices of our brothers and sisters in arms is also encouraged (please use the “Supporting Words” tab). Some members of the Landstuhl CrossFit team are currently deployed in Afghanistan and will be conducting Fight Gone Bad simultaneously with us – your thanks and goodwell wishes will mean a lot to these folks and others deployed.
- Event location: Adam Muller Str 7, 66894 Gerhardsbrun (behind the church)
- Date/Time: Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 1000-1600
- What is a Fight Gone Bad? The event is in a 3-round format, and consists of moving from each of five stations after a minute. A one-minute break is allowed before starting the next round (the clock does not reset or stop between exercises). On call of “rotate,” the athlete/s must move to the next station immediately for a good score. One point is given for each rep (on rower each calorie=1 point). Stations include:
- Wall-ball: 20 pound ball, 10 ft target. (Reps)
- Sumo deadlift high-pull: 75 pounds (Reps)
- Box Jump: 20in box (Reps)
- Push-press: 75 pounds (Reps)
- Row (Calories)

Drake and I were deeply impacted by the recent death of SPC Alcaraz, combat medic, and one of the soldiers with whom Drake was honored to serve in C Co 173d Brigade Support Battalion (Airborne). They served together during 173d BSB’s June 2007-August 2008 tour in Afghanistan, a tour which is also mentioned in CrossFit Landstuhl’s “Hero WOD Week” blog entry on 6 July, and “What Makes A Hero?” blog entry on 9 July. It was a rough time both for soldiers involved downrange as well as we families who agonized back home. Watch the 2 minute “Restrepo” film trailer we link on 6 July here (The film documents second platoon, 173d Airborne Brigade’s deployment in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley, 2007-2008, and won the US Documentary Grand Jury Prize at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival). Soldiers and family members from C Co involved in this tour are still tight, and the loss of one is felt as deeply as the loss of a close family member.
Frustrated by inactivity, and wishing to make some public expression of sorrow in SPC Alcaraz’s honor, we feel that the Fight Gone Bad 5 event deserves our participation, and that the Wounded Warrior Project charity is both worthy of our monetary donation and of our tenacious fundraising effort.
We would love to see you there! Many thanks in advance for your support.
